Our ranges are exclusively used for our private members, training sessions and shooting events, ensuring a safe, professional experience.
At Virtue of Defense Tactical, we offer private, one-on-one firearms instruction in a discreet setting, ideal for beginners or those who prefer personalized coaching. Training is available for pistol, rifle (carbine), and shotgun, with the option to book small group sessions for couples or family members. Larger groups can be accommodated upon discussion with the instructor.
Our goal is to build proficiency, confidence, and good habits, starting with fundamental marksmanship and progressing to self-defense shooting skills—so you can train effectively on your own.
VODTAC hosts a variety of dynamic shooting competitions, including 2-Gun, 3-Gun, Run & Gun, long-distance, and night shoots.
As one of the few ranges on the East Coast to sponsor night competitions, we offer a unique challenge for shooters looking to test their skills in low-light conditions.

For shooters seeking a private, well-equipped facility to train on their own schedule, Virtue of Defense Tactical offers an exclusive membership program designed for those serious about improving their firearms skills. Our range supports advanced training maneuvers while providing a safe and controlled environment.
To ensure the highest safety standards, we vet all prospective members before granting access. This includes: skills and safety competency assessment to determine readiness for unsupervised range use. A review of previous training and experience to ensure all members meet our safety and proficiency standards.
If an applicant does not yet meet the required skill level, we offer training and private instruction to help them develop the necessary competency.
Our pistol and short range rifle bays offer up to 25 yards of space, targets, steel spinners, and stands and equipment to set up your own stages, or bring your downrange equipment. Our long range rifle bay offers targets at intervals from 100 to 700 yards! Bay 1, 2, and long range have cover!
Virtue Of Defense Tactical (VOD) training facility and firearms range is located in Western North Carolina, close to Old Fort and within 30 minutes to an hour from Asheville, Marion, Mills River, Hendersonville, Swannanoa, Waynesville, Lake Lure, Bat Cave, Chimney Rock, Fletcher, Weaverville, Candler, Mill Spring, Flat Rock, Rutherfordton, and more.
While we allows members to shoot unsupervised, we have strict rules for the safety and enjoyment of all our shooters.
For short range bays: pistol caliber rounds, slugs, buckshot, or rifle rounds allowed on paper, but only pistol rounds on steel.
For our long range bay, you may shoot any rifle calibre up to 50 BMG (50 cal must be suppressed). For all bays, no steel core, tracer, armor-piercing, incendiary, and steel-jacketed rounds.
For your safety, ear and eye protection is required the entire time you are on the range.
Unvetted guests are not allowed, and if you would like your partner or spouse to shoot, sign up for a couples membership.
Unfortunately, they are too difficult to clean up, so no sporting clays on the range please.
Help us maintain a clean range, please clean up your brass when you are finished.
